3 Simple Elements to Add Beauty and Balance to Your Home

Motivation
Perspective

If 2017 was the year of discovering hygee (we’re still working on the art of optimal coziness), 2018 has us searching for ways to bring wellness into our dwellings. No, we aren't talking about a room-by-room makeover, but rather through implementing simple elements of decor for added beauty and balance in our homes.

Whether you find inspiration in the ahhh-mazing Zen design of your favorite studio, all those new stylish home brands at Target, or the trendy decor at your hair salon, we’ve got three easy ways to keep those good vibes coming every time you open your door, all year long.

Welcome to the Jungle

Welcome to the Jungle

Indoor greenery has come a long way since your mom’s spider plants. Pinterest boards, pop-up shops, Instagram pages…all dedicated to the hip botanical trend that’s here to stay. Creating a mini urban jungle is a simple way to refresh your pad this new year. Not only do plants up your decor game, they rid your air of toxins and can increase positivity and make you feel better.

No matter the size of your space—of the strength of your green thumb—succulents are a good place to start. They are tough (thanks to the desert sun), diverse, texturally appealing, and just look cool. Anything we can’t kill is a win in our book, especially with the heat cranking all winter long. Plus, budget-friendly succulents easily ship fresh from online retailers, like San Diego, California-based Pigment. We suggest using soil that drains quickly and is meant specifically for succulents, which you buy online or find at most garden retailers. Using fun, funky, and modern pots and planters—like animal heads or terrariums—will also spice up your space.

The Power of Purple

The Power of Purple

With The Pantone Color Institute recently naming Ultra Violet its color of the year for 2018, purple is having a moment. But when it comes to crystals, the power of the purple hues in amethyst is always popular. And you don’t have to be an energy expert or crystal guru to have amethyst in your home.

Promoting stress-relieving powers and balance, amethyst is visually appealing and can add serenity to your home. You can purchase amethyst in a variety of shapes and sizes, but we suggest going to pick out your crystals in person to ensure you choose the texture and size that you desire for your dwellings. After selecting your crystals, incorporate the amethyst into your decor by placing it around your home—wherever you feel like you need a little extra Zen.

Words of Wisdom

Words of Wisdom

Discovering your daily dose of motivation shouldn’t just come from social media, it should come from where you live. Inspire your decorating endeavors by spreading positivity throughout your house with motivational phrases. From trendy throw pillows to wall art, we suggest surrounding yourself with small touches of beautiful, modern encouragement.

When choosing inspiring imagery and decor, select one item that will be a focal point in the room where it is placed. The motivational item you choose should be something you don’t mind seeing on a daily basis to help boost your mood (and make you smile). Etsy is one of our favorite places to search for motivational + inspirational decor. Be sure to pick a color scheme that will stand out but is complimentary to your current design aesthetic.

Not Too Cheesy: Vegan "Cheese" Recipes That Taste Like The Real Thing

Recipes
Food
Nutrition

We all love cheese. And if you don’t love cheese, well, you just haven’t found the right kind for you. If you’re unlucky like me, however, cheese does not like you. Thankfully, we live in 2020, where plant-based cheese recipes are alive and well.

I have been dairy-free for a few years, and cheese is truly the food group I miss the most. As much as we try, we sometimes just can’t get vegan cheese to taste like the real thing. So, I recruited my dairy-loving, cow-consuming friends to be my taste-testers. Their brutal honesty helped me create some “fake” cheese that can actually compete with the real stuff.

Goat "Cheese" Ball

Did you know you can make mouth-watering “fake” cheese with macadamia nuts? Yes, macadamia nuts. If you’re craving that creamy consistency but your stomach isn’t down for dairy, try out this recipe inspired by Simple Vegan Blog

Nacho "Cheese" Sauce

I know what you’re thinking: is this real? Is it too good to be true? No nuts, no fat, and it tastes good? You’re in for a treat. No one can tell the difference between this recipe and their favorite gooey cheese sauce. This recipe makes a lot of sauce, so be ready to share and shock your dairy-loving friends.
